Welcome to the Health and Social Care website

keeping fitWelcome to the Health and Social Care website. This site has been setup with the intention of supplying all interested parties with all of the information and resources regarding Health and Social Care they might need. The concepts of health and wellness are interchangeably used, even though the truth of the matter is that they refer to slightly different ideas.

Health refers specifically to the condition of the physical body, and this can be either a good or a bad condition. Health therefore is a continuum along which we can rate the state of the bodily function. This state is dependent upon a number of variables such as choice of diet, genetic make-up, degree of exercise and activity, environmental condition, rest and sleep, and the state of mind.

Wellness, however, refers to the actual process of maintaining this state of health on the plus side, keeping it in the positive, and is dependent upon a decision by the individual to seek wellness. This decision is the vital difference – wellness is an active experience, while health is the passive state that occurs as a result of the commitment to wellness, or indeed, it’s opposite.

There is a visibly growing interest in health and wellness among educated people, and there is an increased demand for health food stores that stock among other things, nutritional supplements, so called super-foods, and vitamins. Equally, companies selling products that negatively affect health and wellness are being adversely by this trend.
